Hear The Un-Hearable

Spectronics Corporation (Westbury, NY) has introduced the Spectroline Marksman ultrasonic diagnostic tool, which converts and amplifies inaudible ultrasonic sound into audible “natural” sound. This allows maintenance staff to hear sounds that signify problems such as compressed air leaks, electrical discharge, and natural gas, propane, seal, or gasket leaks.

The receiver unit converts inaudible sound into audible sound using a process known as heterodyning, and then the unit’s technology displays the intensity of incoming signals on a 10-bar LED display. The Marksman Master Kit comes with a receiver, full-sized headphones, two probes, and an ultrasonic emitter, which allows technicians to test for faulty seals.
