Lactic Acid Bacteria Testing

Petrifilmâ„¢ Plates has an Aerobic Procedure for Lactic Acid Bacteria which utilizes the Petrifilmâ„¢ Aerobic Count Plate supplemented with MRS (deMan, Rogosa and Sharpe) medium and a pH indicator to enumerate lactic acid bacteria in salad dressings, ready-to-eat meats, ready-to-eat salads and stainless steel surfaces.

Food processors and reference labs have demonstrated feasibility relative to their current lactic acid bacteria testing with a simple three-step procedure:
1. Combine - MRS/pH indicator broth with food or environmental sample and place sample on the center of an Aerobic Count Plate.
2. Incubate - The space saving design maximizes incubator space.
3. Enumerate - A red indicator dye in the plate reacts with growing bacteria allowing colony visualization. Acid producing bacteria produce a yellow zone (halo) around the colony.
