N-Viro International Corp., Toledo, OH, says details of a test conducted on its biofuel at Michigan State University's T.B. Simon power plant has proven that the fuel can be used competitively to create electricity in coal-fired power plants. The newly developed biomass fuel, called N-Viro Fuel, has physical and chemical characteristics similar to coal and is created from municipal biosolids. The test was designed to measure the performance of the fuel when blended with eastern bituminous coal in a circulating fluidized bed coal combustion boiler, a clean coal technology.
