Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, AL, has opened a carbon-to-liquids development center in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. The center is an independent research facility for technology developers and project engineers to implement, test, and refine pilot-scale technology designs. Its purpose is to facilitate the commercial acceptance of technologies that convert non-petroleum carbon resources, including agricultural wastes, into high value products such as clean diesel fuel, jet fuel, methanol, ethanol, and electric power.
