OSRAM LED Lights Find Uses in Automobile Lighting

The OSTAR Product Platform from OSRAM Opto Semconductors can help automakers make the shift away from conventional lighting to using LEDs in vehicles.

The OSTAR Product Platform from OSRAM Opto Semconductors (Sunnyvale, CA) can help automakers make the shift away from conventional lighting to using LEDs in vehicles.

LEDs offer efficiency and a long-life, which can lower power consumption and reduce the likelihood that lamps will need to be replaced.

The OSTAR Headlamp LED was the first project OSRAM worked on to redefine the concept of forward lighting design. Features include:

•An integrated shutter for horizontal light cutoff and a smaller mounting depth.
•Up to 5 LED chips.
•A white color impression at maximum brightness levels.
•Values between 125 and 1000 lm.
•Scalable brightness and numerous configuration options.

The OSTAR Compact LED was designed specifically for DRL Light Guide applications. Features include:

•A power draw of 5 W.
•An operating current of 1.4 A.
•A typical brightness of 300 lm.
•A 2 mm² chip for high luminance.
•2 LEDs.
•An optimum heat removal rate of 6 K/W.

The IR OSTAR Observation family of infrared LED emitters are designed for use in night vision equipment and CCTV applications. Features include:

•A wavelength specifically adapted to CMOS/CCD camera systems.
•Compact, multi-chip arrays.
•Operating temperatures up to 125° C.
•Low thermal resistance.
