Washington, D.C. (Manufacturing.net) — GE’s Industrial Solutions business has announced the ArcWatch circuit breaker communication technology, which allows customers to enable an electrical system design that maximizes uptime while providing continuous arc-flash mitigation. The ArcWatch technology uses a combination of communication algorithms across the GE portfolio of circuit breakers to ensure only the circuit breakers nearest to the fault trip, a process that can take as little as 4 milliseconds. This limits the energy in the event of an arc flash, protecting both people and equipment.
Systems with ArcWatch built-in reduced the impact of an event to <8 cal/cm2, which means there are lower requirements for using personal protective equipment. The use of fire-resistant clothing, instead of an arc-flash suit, makes it easier for electricians to work with their hands, making work faster.
