Markham, Ontario (Manufacturing.net) — GE today has announced the first product in its MultilinTM 8 Series protection and control relay platform designed to  deliver the reliability needed to support mission-critical electrical infrastructures in industrial and distribution facilities. The company says this system will help engineers increase reliability while reducing the costs associated with unplanned outages. The 8 Series has been designed to withstand the harsh environments typically found in the oil & gas and mining industries, where downtime equates to lost revenue immediately. A number of detailed asset diagnostics help operators make proactive decisions to reduce outages and plan maintenance schedules. Other features include:

  • An environmental awareness module to actively monitor both the environment and the systems own internal components.
  • A conformal coating on the circuit boards that helps protect against environmental factors to deliver higher reliability and extent product life.
  • An integrated integrity engine that utilizes customized algorithms to provide better diagnostics.
  • Cybersecurity features to help companies comply with NERC/CIP and NISTIR 7628 cybersecurity requirements.
  • A 10-year warrantee.
