ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Officials are investigating a weekend ransomware attack that affected municipal government computers in New York's capital city.
The Albany mayor's office has been working to determine whether information was compromised.
Government employees were working at their usual times on Monday but some buildings had delayed public openings.
The public was directed to state offices for copies of birth, death and marriage certificates.
The software allows hackers to access computers. They refuse to release control of the devices and information until a ransom is paid.
Albany police union Vice President Gregory McGee said on Sunday that the ransomware appeared to affect patrol car computers that provide incident and accident reports. However, department spokesman Steve Smith said there were no interruptions in police service.
