ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — General Motors Co. is expanding its production facility in Texas as part of a move that will add about 180 jobs in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
GM said Tuesday that construction will start next week on a $200 million parts manufacturing wing of the Arlington plant. The facility will produce large parts for GM's full-size sport utility vehicles.
The company says the facility should open in 2013 and save about $40 million annually in costs for logistics. Currently, the Arlington plant gets large parts from several GM plants, including some that are more than 1,000 miles away.
The latest Arlington addition comes less than a year after the company announced a $331 million expansion plan for the Texas plant.
