PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — Hewlett-Packard Co. said Friday that it finished its acquisition of security software maker ArcSight Inc. for $43.50 per share, or $1.5 billion.

HP said in September that it would buy ArcSight, which is the latest in a series of acquisitions the technology company has made as it seeks bigger profit margins outside the personal computer business.

The company hopes the acquisition will help it respond to the growing threat posed by hackers, computer viruses and digital fraud.

HP shares rose 46 cents to $42.86 in afternoon trading.
