NEW YORK (AP) — General Electric Co. said Monday it will help Reliance Power Ltd. of India with a power plant expansion project in a deal worth $750 million.
GE, based in Fairfield, Conn., said it will supply natural gas and steam turbines, training and other services for the Samalkot power plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. It also signed a 15-year contractual service agreement for the project.
The plant expansion is expected to begin service in 2012. The project will help meet surging electricity demand as India's economy grows rapidly.
GE shares added 13 cents, or nearly 1 percent, at $16.19 in pre-market trading.
