DUBLIN, Va. (AP) -- Volvo Trucks North America says union workers at its assembly plant in Dublin have approved a new five-year contract. The company says in a news release that the contract ratified Sunday covers about 1,300 members of United Auto Workers Local 2069 at its New River Valley plant.

DUBLIN, Va. (AP) -- Volvo Trucks North America says union workers at its assembly plant in Dublin have approved a new five-year contract.

The company says in a news release that the contract ratified Sunday covers about 1,300 members of United Auto Workers Local 2069 at its New River Valley plant.

Volvo spokesman John Mies tells The Roanoke Times that the contract includes a two-tier compensation plan. Recalled workers' compensation would be lower than what existing workers earn.

Local 2069 President Lester Hancock says the contract provides a raise for existing employees and preserves health care benefits.

Volvo Trucks North America President and CEO Denny Slagle says the contract will provide stability that will help the company build on last year's gains in the North American market.
