TOKYO, Sept. 5 (Kyodo) — Honda Motor Co. is recalling Fit compact cars sold in Japan and abroad as their power window switches could potentially catch fire, the company said in a report to the transport ministry Monday.
Subject to the recall are about 216,000 Fit and Fit Aria cars produced between October 2005 and August 2008 for sale in Japan and about 720,000 sold overseas.
Honda has received eight reports of power window switches that caught fire in Japan between July 2010 and May 2011. Two persons suffered slight hand burns.
Transport ministry officials said powder from aromatic and cleansing substances sprayed inside vehicles might remain inside power window switches and catch fire due to friction.
