NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A worker has died from injuries he received in a flash fire at a Nashville metals plant over the weekend, less than two months after a fire at a metals plant in Gallatin resulted in two deaths.
The Metro Nashville Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the death of Shawn Allen Austin, 28, of Nashville, according to The Tennessean. The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Division will also investigate.
Austin was one of two workers injured Saturday at the John W. McDougall Co., which does custom fabrication of sheet metal. The state Occupational Health and Safety division will also investigate.
Austin died on Tuesday at Vanderbilt University Hospital, where the other worker —Saul Hernandez, 26 —was reported in stable condition on Thursday.
"Right now our thoughts and prayers and condolences are with the family and we're conducting an internal investigation," said Alec McDougall, company president, who did not comment further.
Austin's death came about five weeks after a fire at the GKN/Hoeganaes Corp. metals plant in Gallatin injured five workers, two of whom later died.
There were no outstanding violations against McDougall, said Jeff Hentchel of TOSHA.
Records showed four violations noted in November 2008 had all been corrected by January 2009.
