ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- IT employment was essentially flat in September after growing steadily throughout much of the year.

According to a monthly index of IT jobs developed and published by TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of IT services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers, IT employment in September was essentially flat compared with August, dipping by only 200 jobs (0.0051 percent) to 3,886,100. On a year-over-year basis IT employment remains up 1.8 percent, robust growth when compared with overall employment which has only posted anemic growth of only 0.26 percent during the same time period.

"While there is always going to be some month-to-month variance reflecting the dynamic nature of the labor market, September's numbers in no way dissuade us from our bullish outlook for the remainder of 2010," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "My members continue to report increasing demand for their services with many candidates in high-demand skill-sets receiving multiple offers, a sure sign we are moving in the right direction," observed Roberts.
