New Owner To Restart VA Rubber Plant

The former Rubatex plant in Bedford could resume rubber production in a couple of months under a new owner.

BEFORD, Va. (AP) — The former Rubatex plant in Bedford could resume rubber production in a couple of months under a new owner.

Gran Tee Investments LLC vice president Trevor Ballou says his company bought the plant at a bankruptcy auction in March for about $675,000.

Ballou tells The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/Ijttsm ) that restarting the plant depends on how quickly power can be restored.

He says production will resume gradually as opportunities arise. Eight to 12 jobs are expected to be created initially.

The plant has closed twice since 2004 under two previous owners.
