Honda Starts Building New Hybrid At IN Plant

GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) — Honda is starting up production of a new gas-electric hybrid car at its southeastern Indiana factory.

Honda officials and Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman are taking part in a ceremony Monday morning at the Greensburg factory to mark the first Acura ILX built at the plant. Skillman's office says the new hybrid Acura will be exclusively built at the Greensburg factory.

Production of the new Acura hybrid comes after the factory started last year building another alternative-fuel vehicle, the Civic Natural Gas.

Honda's factory in the city about 40 miles southeast of Indianapolis opened in 2008. It roughly doubled its workforce last year by hiring nearly 1,000 new employees when it added a second production shift.
