PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) — About 100 employees at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant have been sent layoff notices as the facility moves toward a shutdown.
The United States Enrichment Corp., issued the notices Friday. The latest round of notices are separate from the roughly 160 employees whose jobs will be cut Aug. 16. Workers notified on Friday were told their jobs would end between Oct. 14 and Oct. 25.
USEC spokeswoman Georgann Lookofsky told The Paducah Sun (https://bit.ly/1cZjETe ) no more layoffs were scheduled this year.
In 2014, USEC executives will decide when further layoffs will happen, based on the company's progress in returning the plant to the Department of Energy.
USEC leases the plant from the DOE, and announced in May that it was shutting down its uranium enrichment operations in Paducah.
