KY Catalytic Converter Plant To Bring 50 Jobs

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Mitsui Kinzoku Catalysts America Inc. will locate a plant in Frankfort making catalytic converters and creating 50 full-time jobs.

The company expects to invest $19.5 million in the project and wants to begin operations within two years.

Gov. Steve Beshear's office said the state has given preliminary approval for the company to receive tax incentives up to $500,000.

Mitsui Kinzoku, a subsidiary of Japan-based Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co. Ltd., will make catalytic converters for automobiles and motorcycles.

Beshear's office said there are more than 150 Japanese-owned companies in Kentucky, employing more than 37,000 people. The automotive industry employs nearly 80,000 people at more than 450 motor vehicle-related facilities in Kentucky.
