The Gaston County Economic Development Commission is pleased to announce that Owens Corning will construct an advanced manufacturing plant in the Gastonia Technology Park (GTP). The facility will house the manufacturing and research & development for the glass fiber sector of Owens Corning. The initial investment will be $120 million and at full operations the company will employ up to 110 persons. Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of 2013 with the completion of the facility to occur by fourth quarter 2014.
“We appreciate the extraordinary support provided by the State of North Carolina, Gaston County and the city of Gastonia throughout the selection process,” said Arnaud Genis, Group President of Owens Corning‟s Composite Solutions Business. “Gastonia provides a great foundation for our new glass non-woven facility with its location in Charlotte region, where there are particular concentrations of skills needed for this business; its proximity to key customers; and its attractive business environment. The Gastonia operation will support growing customer demand for glass non-woven products serving the global building materials market, complementing our existing facilities in Europe and North America, and enhancing Owens Corning‟s leadership position in the provision of glass non-woven technologies,” he added.
Mr. Tracey Philbeck, Vice Chairman of the Gaston County Board of Commissioners said; “We are excited to welcome Owens Corning to Gaston County and for choosing the Gastonia Technology Park (GTP) for their newest advanced manufacturing facility. This is great news for our community. I along with the rest of the Commissioners, are elated to have another internationally recognized company in Owens Corning to locate in the Gastonia Technology Park.” He further stated, “The recruitment of world class firms was the main objective for the County to invest in the development of the GTP. We knew that if we were to compete for quality projects, Gaston County had to provide a truly world class setting.” Vice Chairman Philbeck added, “Gaston County constantly strives to provide an outstanding business environment for all of our corporate citizens. Through the EDC‟s Existing Industry program we will continue to provide service after the sale‟ for Owens Corning and all of our community‟s corporate citizens.”

I am especially glad that the Gastonia Technology Park was chosen for this state-of-the –art production and R&D facility” said Gastonia Mayor John Bridgeman. Adding, “This is the culmination of many hours work and cooperation between the Gastonia City staff and the County‟s EDC. The City consistently works with the County to provide a high level of service to attract these companies. Our staff will continue to provide service throughout the construction process with a high level of urgency. The selection of the GTP by Owens Corning will aid in our efforts to recruit other world class firms to our community and for that we are grateful.”
