North Charleston, S.C. (AP) -- Another Boeing manufacturing plant is being constructed in South Carolina.
Company officials broke ground on Tuesday for a new propulsion facility in North Charleston that will make engine air intakes for the company's new 737 Max aircraft. The location is several miles from Boeing's existing plant that assembles the 787 Dreamliner.
The company doesn't discuss investment numbers for specific projects, and officials have not announced how many workers the new plant will employ. But Charlie Hix, the director of Propulsion South Carolina, says the plant should be completed in a year's time and should reach full production in 2015.
The plant is included in Boeing's announcement earlier this year that it will invest more than $1 billion, creating 2,000 more jobs in South Carolina during the next eight years.
