JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott is calling for spending $30 million a year on new job training programs.

Scott on Thursday announced the initiative during a stop at a convenience food manufacturer. The programs will be focused on fields in science, technology, engineering and math and high-demand areas.

The Scott administration did not provide many details about the new programs. It would need to be authorized by state legislators this spring.

But Scott said that part of the money would go for scholarships to students who would train in high-demands fields at either a state college or vocational school.

The scholarship amount and eligibility criteria have not been determined yet.

Another portion of the money would be set aside to businesses. Florida already provides $12 million in training grants to businesses.
