Union-Goodyear Talks 'Intense'

CLEVELAND (AP) — The union says national contract talks with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. have reached an intense stage. The Steelworkers union says the talks are focused on job security, keeping plants open and health-care costs. The Akron-based tire maker says it remains confident an agreement can be reached in the talks that have been ongoing in Cincinnati since June.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The union says national contract talks with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. have reached an intense stage.

The Steelworkers union says the talks are focused on job security, keeping plants open and health-care costs.

The Akron-based tire maker says it remains confident an agreement can be reached in the talks that have been ongoing in Cincinnati since June.

After two extensions, the contract is scheduled to expire at midnight Saturday for about 10,300 employees at seven plants in Ohio, New York, Virginia, North Carolina, Alabama, Kansas and Tennessee.
