HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A factory employee is being treated for exposure to a toxic chemical and about 200 people were ordered to stay indoors after a leak from a railroad car in West Virginia.
Fire officials say three businesses also were evacuated Tuesday morning in the Ohio River city of Huntington.
Huntington Fire Chief Tim Provaznik (pro-VAZ-nic) said between 50,000 and 60,000 pounds of liquid aniline spilled while being unloaded at the Flint Group Pigments plant.
Aniline is toxic if inhaled, absorbed through the skin or swallowed.
State Department of Environmental Protection spokeswoman Kathy Cosco says the leak has been stopped and a department crew has been sent to supervise cleanup.
There was no immediate word on when the order to stay indoors might be lifted.
