KEEWATIN, Minn. (AP) -- Union officials at an idled northern Minnesota taconite plant say they've been told by U.S. Steel that production will start again soon.
Steelworkers 2660 President Jack Thronson says he received a call Monday from Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel saying the company will bring workers back.
KeeTac in Keewatin was shut down last December because of the economic downturn, leaving about 400 people without work.
Thronson says maintenance workers and management will be called back first.
Thronson says U.S. steel didn't provide him with the exact dates of when workers will be brought back. He says all 325 union members will eventually be asked to resume work.
