MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Some New Hampshire business leaders say proposed new federal air pollution regulations could put more than half the state in violation of clean air laws.
Michael Licata of the Business and Industry Association tells the New Hampshire Union Leader members should be concerned by the proposal, which was announced Jan. 7.
The goal is to reduce the amount of ground-level ozone and other pollutants to what the federal Environmental Protection Agency considers to be below a hazardous level.
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Service says the proposed new rules could force the state to crack down on power plants and industries that use large boilers for heat and energy.
The EPA is taking public comment on the proposal until March.
