BELMONT, N.C. (AP) — A South Carolina textile company plans to open a yarn-making operation in a vacant mill in North Carolina, employing about 100 people.
Multiple media outlets reported that Jo-Mar Spinning will start the spinning and twisting operation in the former Helms plant in Belmont. The plant closed last year when R.L. Stowe Mills went out of business.
Jo-Mar plant manager Joe Ludlum says the company will make carded and combed yarns for knitted and woven products.
More than 230 people lost their jobs when the Helms and National plants closed last year in Belmont.
A document filed with the North Carolina Secretary of State's Office shows Jo-Mar is registered to an address in Simpsonville, S.C., belonging to Joshua Hamilton, former president of Wellstone Mills Inc. Wellstone was based in Greenville, S.C.
