MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden plans to visit Midland for the groundbreaking of an advanced battery manufacturing facility being built by a Dow Chemical Co. joint venture.

Biden is to be at the event Monday for the Dow Kokam facility. The joint venture was given a $161 million grant to build a lithium polymer battery technology manufacturing plant.

Representatives from Midland-based Dow Chemical and Dow Kokam are expected to participate as are Gov. Jennifer Granholm and U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow.

Biden's appearance is part of a six-week focus on economic recovery act infrastructure projects nationwide. The grant was part of $2.4 billion announced in August to develop next-generation electric vehicles and batteries.
