Armstrong To Close Penn. Plant, 150 Jobs Lost

BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — About 150 western Pennsylvania workers have been told they will lose their jobs with the closing of a specialty ceiling tile plant. Armstrong World Industries announced Friday that the 107-year-old Beaver County plant will close in phases over the next year.

BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — About 150 western Pennsylvania workers have been told they will lose their jobs with the closing of a specialty ceiling tile plant.

Armstrong World Industries announced Friday that the 107-year-old Beaver County plant will close in phases over the next year. The Lancaster-based firm, which has four other plants in the country, says tile production will be moved to other facilities.

Company spokeswoman Beth Riley says officials anticipate the plant being closed by the second half of next year. She says about 125 hourly production employees will be laid off, and about 25 salaried positions will be eliminated when operations cease. Riley says some employees willing to relocate may be offered jobs elsewhere.

Several state representatives plan to meet with union and plant officials to see whether anything can be done to avert the closure or help workers.
