SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The owner and the manager of a San Francisco printing plant are facing charges in connection to the death of a pregnant worker who was crushed by a machine.
The owner of Digital Pre-Press International, Sanjay Sakhuja, and manager Alick Yeung were charged with involuntary manslaughter in the January 2008 death of 26-year-old Margarita Mojica.
Sakhuja's lawyer says the death was a "horrible accident," but not a criminal matter.
Prosecutors allege the workers were not trained, and the company did not follow safety regulations.
Mojica was leaning into a box creasing and cutting machine when the machine slammed shut.
The defendants face $250,000 each in fines and four years in prison. The company faces $1.5 million in fines.
The two defendants are expected to surrender Tuesday.
