HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The chief executive of Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp. says workers at jet engine manufacturing subsidiary Pratt & Whitney are happy to have a new labor contract. A union official disagrees.
Chief Executive Officer Louis Chenevert told investor analysts Thursday he's pleased members of the Machinists union on Sunday approved an agreement allowing the company to shut two engine repair plants in Connecticut.
The vote ended a 15-month legal fight over the plants. The union agreed to the company's demands after winning a buyout offer and a pledge workers can be transferred to the two remaining plants in Connecticut.
Wayne McCarthy is president of the Machinists local at Cheshire, one of the plants to be shut. He says workers are relieved and satisfied to have a contract but aren't happy.
