ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Fire investigators say dust in the air at an animal vitamin plant led to an explosion that damaged the plant and left two workers injured.
Jackson County firefighters responded to the blast at the Hoffman-La Roche/DCM Materials plant on Tuesday.
Darrell Chaison, a captain with the Jefferson Fire Department, says firefighters arrived to discover the top floors of the six-story building had been blown to pieces.
Officials say one employee was blown against a wall by the force of the explosion, and debris injured another employee who was in the parking area at the time of the blast. Both were taken to Northeast Georgia Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
