EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A southern Indiana commercial developer says it has bought more than 1 million square feet of a former Whirlpool Corp. plant.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Friday that The Kunkel Group Inc. has finalized the sale of about 1.2 million square feet of the 1.7 million feet of property. It had been home to a refrigerator factory that closed last year.

A sale price wasn't disclosed.

Kunkel Group Realty Vice President Chuck Harper says Benton Harbor, Mich.-based Whirlpool is retaining its refrigerator design center and leasing some office space.

He says Kunkel Group is in final talks with three companies and expects two could be occupying the plant within two months. He declined to identify them but said they are manufacturers and new businesses to the area.
