LINCOLN, Ala. (AP) — Honda Motor Co. Ltd. plans to invest $97 million in its auto assembly plant in Lincoln, creating 20 jobs.

The Talladega County Commission voted Monday night to approve the tax abatements for the project, which is expected to be completed in late 2012. The project comes as Honda prepares to add production of the Acura MDX luxury sports utility vehicle to its assembly lines. Plant spokesman Mark Morrison said the new investment will increase production capacity, improve manufacturing flexibility and support the MDX move.

The plant employs about 4,000 people in the production of the Odyssey minivan, Pilot SUV and Ridgeline pickup.
