GROTON, Conn. (AP) — Electric Boat has notified workers that it plans to lay off 104 employees at its Groton shipyard.
A spokesman for the Groton-based division of General Dynamics Corp. says the layoffs reflect a projected softening of the workload for carpenters, machinists and pipefitters.
Spokesman Robert Hamilton said Tuesday that the builder of nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy continues to hire engineers to meet increasing workloads. The company says the hiring outlook remains stable.
Officials say the workers were notified on Monday that their jobs will end on Sept. 9.
Electric Boat employs about 10,790 people at its Groton shipyard and a Quonset Point, R.I., manufacturing plant.
