Jury Rules Daramic Did Not Discriminate In Firings

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) — A Daviess County jury has ruled that Daramic Inc. did not discriminate when it fired two older workers at its Owensboro plant. Paul Mitchell and Paul Stinnett filed suit after they were fired in Oct. 2008. Mitchell, the plant's production scheduler, was 59 at the time and had been with the company for 17 years.

Stinnett, a production manager, was 57 and had been there 27 years.

Both men testified they were told during their termination meetings that the firings had nothing to do with their job performance, according to the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer.

Plaintiffs' attorney Charles Wible said at trial that Mitchell trained the man who eventually replaced him.

"They gave him no reason for being terminated other than, 'You do not fit the vision of the new Daramic Owensboro,'" Wible said.
