COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Amazon officials say they will move into their Lexington County facility next month.
Company officials say they plan to hire up to 2,000 full-time and part-time workers by the end of the year for the distribution center near Cayce. Lexington County officials say the company has received more than 9,000 applications.
Plant manager John Petta said Monday that Amazon has hired between 400 and 500 full-time workers. Petta says most of the initial hiring will be seasonal workers for Christmas sales.
He says the company is still trying to determine how many permanent employees it will need for around-the-clock operations.
The company is supposed to hire 2,000 full-time employees by the end of 2013 to qualify for a sales tax exemption the Legislature approved earlier this year.
