COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A company that makes canoes, kayaks and paddles is expanding in South Carolina's Greenville County, creating 72 jobs over the next five years.

Confluence Watersports said Wednesday it will consolidate its separate manufacturing and distribution operations into one location in Greenville along Interstate 85. It expects to invest more than $13 million as it moves into a building previously occupied by Hitachi.

The watersport company expects to move in by year's end. Hiring for the new jobs should start next month.

The county approved a fee-in-lieu-of-taxes deal for the company.

The state provided a $100,000 grant, tax credits and training money.

Hitachi closed its television tube plant in 2006, eliminating 200 jobs at the plant that once employed 1,350 people.
