MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — The DuPont Co. is dedicating its new expanded plant near Moncks Corner to increase the company's production of Kevlar, a fiber used in everything from tires and bullet proof vests to combat helmets.

The ceremony at the expanded Cooper River Plant is being held on Thursday.

The company announced in late 2007 that it was investing about $500 million in the expansion. That's among the larger single industrial investments in South Carolina history.

The plant had 60 workers when the expansion was announced and is adding about 135 new employees.
