HELENA, Mont. (AP) — The Ash Grove Cement Co. says it plans to furlough workers at its manufacturing plant in Montana City for a third straight winter because of poor economic conditions that continue to affect the industry.

The company, based in Overland Park, Kan., said in a news release Monday the furloughs will affect fewer workers than in previous years, with roughly 220 on the national furlough list, compared to 500 in 2010.

The Independent Record (http://bit.ly/300hsn ) reports Montana City is expected to see the furloughs beginning Dec. 19, but the exact number of workers affected at the plant remains unclear. The newspaper reports local plant manager Dick Johnson could not be reached for comment Monday.

The company says "plants are expected to resume production on a rolling start-up basis as sales demand dictates."
