Toyota Motor Corp. said Thursday it will reduce vehicle output in Japan, the United States and five other countries for six days from next Monday as flooding in Thailand could hamper the supply of auto parts.
The leading automaker said it will slash production next week in the seven countries, following the halt of operations at its three factories in Thailand since Oct. 10. The plants in the Southeast Asian country have not been hit by floodwater, it added.
The five other countries are Canada, South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
In Japan, Toyota and its group companies stopped overtime work at their car manufacturing plants from Monday due to possible disruption of the parts supply. The automaker said the overtime stoppage will continue on Saturday.
Toyota said it will monitor the situation in Thailand and later decide on the output from the week of Nov. 7.
The carmaker earlier said operations at four factories in the United States and Canada will be suspended on Saturday.
