COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) β€” An international maker of highway safety products is opening in Barnwell County, creating 25 jobs over two years in a building that once employed more than 300.

Sasco Safety announced Tuesday plans to move its manufacturing plant from Alexandria, Egypt, to Barnwell. It plans to invest $1.9 million in the former Hanesbrands building and begin hiring in the first quarter of 2012.

The company makes highway safety products, including traffic cones.

Barnwell Mayor Edward Lemon says the announcement breathes new life into the former sock-making plant, which closed in 2009.

Gov. Nikki Haley says it's another win for rural areas.

Also on Tuesday, aluminum manufacturer Alucoil America Corp. announced it bought Intrabond USA in Clarendon County and plans to spend $5 million on an expansion expected to create 18 jobs.
