CHIBA, Japan, Nov. 16 (Kyodo) — Sony Corp. said Wednesday it will shift its production of digital camera parts to Japan in January from Thailand where it suspended operation of plants due to the massive floods in the country.

Sony will start production of image sensors at a plant in Kikuyo, Kumamoto Prefecture, of its subsidiary Sony Semiconductor Corp. with the aim of making up almost all of the production capacity in the Thai plants by April, Senior Vice President Shoji Nemoto told reporters in Chiba.

The flooding in Thailand may also affect supplies of parts of video equipment mainly used at broadcasting stations, Nemoto said, adding that the company will try to secure supplies by acquiring replacement parts from elsewhere.
