KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A group that wants to prevent weapons manufacturing at a Kansas City plant has gathered enough signatures to put two measures on the ballot.

The city clerk's office said Tuesday that KC Peace Planters had collected enough valid signatures required to put the measures on the ballot.

The Kansas City Star reports (http://bit.ly/yA1q56) that the city council must decide whether to place the measures on a city election ballot.

One of the ballot measures asks Kansas City to divest itself of the municipal bonds for nuclear weapons parts as allowed by law. It also says no local agency will own the plant.

The second ballot measure requires Kansas City to make plans to convert the plant, possibly to renewable energy production, if the plant no longer manufactures nuclear weapons components.
