PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) — Workers at a Toyota Motor Corp. plant in southwestern Indiana are celebrating the plant's production of its 3 millionth vehicle.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/wI9gXY ) that workers marked the production milestone Tuesday by taking the silver Sienna minivan off the plant's assembly line for a media event.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana president Norm Bafunno says the 3 millionth vehicle milestone is "a tribute to everyone's hard work."
The Princeton-area plant about 20 miles north of Evansville began production in 1998 with the Tundra pickup. It's now the region's largest employer, employing about 4,100 people who earn an annual payroll of $288 million.
The plant was forced to reduce its production schedule last year because of parts shortages caused by March's devastating Japan earthquake and tsunami.
