JAKARTA, Nov. 10 (Kyodo) — Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday it will set up a factory in Indonesia to manufacture engines and expand its vehicle production in the Southeast Asia country to cater to growing vehicle demand there.
Six Toyota group companies -- Toyota, Daihatsu Motor Co., Toyota Auto Body Co., Aisin Seiki Co., Denso Corp. and Toyota Tsusho Corp. -- will invest a total of 13 trillion rupiah, or about 100 billion yen, in expansion projects over the next five years.
The investments will create 9,000 new jobs, raising the group's total workforce in Indonesia to around 41,000.
Toyota has decided to buy 150 hectares of land near its Karawang factory in suburban Jakarta to build the engine plant.
The automaker also plans to boost the annual production capacity of the No. 1 Karawang plant from 110,000 to 130,000 vehicles by around September 2013, with the aim of expanding its total output capacity in Indonesia to 250,000 vehicles by early 2014.
