TOKYO, Feb. 21 (Kyodo) — Mitsubishi Plastics Inc. said Thursday it will set up a new plant in Germany to produce aluminum and metal composite materials in 2014.

The construction of the plant in the city of Wiesbaden marks the Japanese company's first production base in Europe for the materials, which are mainly used in the construction industry for interior and exterior panels.

To accommodate an expected growth in demand for construction products, especially from Turkey and countries in Eastern Europe, Mitsubishi Plastics said it has decided to invest 2 billion yen in the new production and marketing base in the German city.

The company aims to start producing the materials at the new facility in the spring of 2014, adding that its annual production capacity is expected to be about 1.5 million square meters.
