NAGOYA, July 1 (Kyodo) — Toyota Motor Corp. said Monday its Turkish subsidiary held a line-off ceremony for the Corolla car and the Verso minivan at a factory in Sakarya, Turkey.
The models, to be exported to more than 50 countries in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, will be assembled at the plant, which cost an additional capital outlay of 150 million euros, it said.
The new Corolla, which features a roomy interior, is different from the Corolla marketed in Japan, although the automaker has given it the same name.
The Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey Inc. plant, which faces the Black Sea, has the capability to manufacture a combined 150,000 Corollas and Versos a year. Toyota hired some 900 locals to work at the plant, it added.
