WASHINGTON, March 12 (Kyodo) — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday Hitachi Koki Co. of Japan is voluntarily recalling its coil nailers for free repairs due to the risk of serious injury.
The CPSC, a governmental body, said about 50,000 coil nailers imported from Japan by Hitachi Koki U.S.A. Ltd. of Norcross, Georgia, were sold in the United States between November 2002 and March 2006 for $350-400.
"The nailers could have a faulty feeder ... posing a serious injury hazard to the user or bystanders," it said in a statement.
The CPSC said Hitachi Koki has received 37 reports of nails being ejected sideways, causing 15 cases of injuries, including five cases of eye injuries resulting in partial blindness.
Hitachi Koki is also recalling 15,000 units of the same coil nailer with model number NV83A2 in Canada.
