COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina officials say a new cultivated diamond facility in Greenville County is expected to create 70 jobs.
Gov. Nikki Haley said Monday that Scio (SIGH'-oh) Diamond Technology Corp.'s decision to establish its corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations in South Carolina shows the state's competitiveness as a place for businesses to locate.
Among the new jobs are positions as diamond growers, chemical engineers and corporate employees. Officials say more than 6,000 square feet will be dedicated to a secure manufacturing facility, providing sufficient space for 18 to 20 diamond growing reactors.
Scio CEO Joseph Lancia says the company will begin moving equipment and operations from its Boston home early next year. The facility plans to come online by the second quarter of 2012.
